工芸と工業の違いはなに？

Where does the difference between today’s industrial products and works of craft lie?
Looking back through history, many manufacturing techniques have, over time, evolved into craft and been passed down across generations
Perhaps the day will come when contemporary factory-based production is also recognized for its cultural significance.
Drawing on this process of value transformation, we are framing a new category we call “Industrial Craft.”
In this Projects, we will present a collection of four prototypes—objects turned by NC lathes operating daily in the small factories of Sumida Ward, Tokyo.
Through them, we aim to explore the potential future of industry and craft.

今日の工業製品と工芸作品の違いは、どこにあるのでしょうか？
歴史を振り返れば、多くの製造技術が時を経て工芸となり、受け継がれてきました。
現代の工場によるものづくりも、やがて文化的価値を帯びる日が訪れるかもしれません。
私たちは、その価値転換のプロセスを倣い、「産業工芸」という新しいカテゴリーとして形にしていきます。
本プロジェクトでは、墨田区の町工場で日々稼働するNC旋盤が削り出した、4点のプロトタイプコレクションを発表。
産業と工芸、その未来の可能性を探ります。

An object inspired by Japanese tea ceremony utensils.
It showcases the craftsmanship involved in embedding dissimilar metals and machining them to create a seamless surface.

茶道具からインスピレーションを得たオブジェクト。
異種金属を埋め込み、切削しシームレスな面をつくりあげる職人技が映える。
